A Visitor for Dinner

(Lame title is lame because IT IS 4.30AM. Don't you judge me.)

Egypt was just finishing preparations, making sure the house was tidy. Estonia would arrive for dinner any minute. He hadn't had any visitors in a long time - largely because foreigners were still being warned against visiting him - so he was nervous and excited. He wanted to make the right impression on this man he didn't know very well. Perhaps they could be friends.

He touched up his make-up, when he heard the doorbell ring, and went to answer it.

[ I would never dare judge for that]

Estonia had just rang the doorbell and was standing outside of Egypt's place waiting. He had been looking forward to the dinner because he hadn't been out in a while and he was glad for the possibility of making a new friend. He wanted to look nice himself, so he dressed as well as he could without going overboard. This was someone he hadn't muched talked to before.

Gupta answered the door.
"As-salamu alaykum," he greeted, quickly looking him over and noting how he was dressed. "Please take off your shoes before you come in."

"Hello, and ok," Eduard responded as he took off his shoes before entering the house.

"How are you?" Gupta asked as he led Estonia inside. He would have to remind himself that this man had an entirely different culture, so he should expect this visit to be slightly unusual.

"I've been fine thanks, and yourself?"Estonia inquired as he followed Egypt into the house.

"I'm getting better," Gupta replied uncertainly. "Um. Have you been doing much recently?"

"At least there's that,"Eduard noted before continuing, "Nothing particularly out of the ordinary, paperwork, personal projects. The usual. And you?"

"Nothing that makes for pleasant conversation. Recovering from my revolution. Maybe soon I'll try and find the artefacts that got stolen from the Cairo museum during the riots." He sighed. "It's been a long time since I've been very good company."

"Sorry about that, hope things get better for you soon," he replied having heard the news about what was going on from sources online.

"No need to apologise, it was hardly your fault. Besides, as I said, I'm getting better. Would you, uh, like a tour of the house or something?"

"That would be fine with me, if it's not a problem."

It struck Gupta as he showed the man around that he'd very rarely had guests even before the revolution. Real guests, that is, not tourists. There weren't very many people who ever wanted to be his guest. He didn't know very many people he would ask in the first place. As a result, he was unsure how to act in a situation like this.

Eduard had hardly ever been much of guest to people outside of the north really, and even then that was relatively rare. Nonetheless, he was determined to make the most of this visit because he was genuinely interested in having someone new for a friend, providing that he didn't have many to be frank.
